Skip Photoshop: Seven Real Tests — Seedream 5.0 Pro vs GPT Image 2 vs Nano Banana 2
AI image tools still spit out wrong glyphs and off colors — and the Photoshop cleanup often takes longer than redrawing the piece yourself.
ByteDance just shipped Seedream 5.0 Pro with a long feature list: infographics, photoreal imagery, multilingual text, precise edits. Creators care about one bar: can you ship the frame without opening PS?
No spec sheets this time. We lined up Seedream 5.0 Pro, GPT Image 2, and Nano Banana 2 on seven real creative tasks.

Three layers, seven tests
We scored three layers: usable layout, correct text, and commercial readiness. Here is how each model behaved.
Test 1: Infographics
Task: a dense Antarctica research-station infographic.
Long prompt:
Antarctica Qinling Station research chronicle infographic. Place the main building at the center, surrounded by a research-development timeline, a bar chart of five station scales, a station energy pie chart, and a monthly sunlight line chart. Include research-equipment photos, a summer weather panel, a seven-step field-operation flow, and on-site sampling photography.
Result: GPT Image 2 felt like a careful layout engineer — stable structure, clear logic. Seedream 5.0 Pro felt more like a visual designer — stronger hierarchy and a punchier hero, with small edge flaws in glyphs. Nano Banana 2 could place the content, but layout logic and visual hierarchy lagged.
Test 2: Photoreal imagery + text
Task: a fashion poster with complex lighting and type.
Hard parts: wet hair, holographic PVC, dual warm/cool lights, RGB chromatic aberration, plus poster lettering.
Long prompt:
Fashion photography portrait of a young woman with sleek wet hair combed back, sharp eyes looking straight at the camera, lips slightly parted. She wears oversized transparent pink square sunglasses and a blue holographic PVC jacket with metallic collar details. Face lighting: deep magenta softbox from the left at 45°, electric cyan cold light from the opposite right at 45°, dramatic warm/cool split. Subtle RGB chromatic aberration along facial edges. Background: asymmetric geometric color panels in orange, gold, cyan, and cream behind the subject. Large bold semi-transparent white text "VIVID" on the upper-left yellow panel. Style: futuristic fashion art poster, clean graphic-poster aesthetics, ultra-high detail, clear skin texture, realistic sunglass reflections.
Result: Seedream nailed materials — wet hair sheen and holographic jacket reflections felt commercial — but the “D” in “VIVID” broke. GPT Image 2 won overall photo realism for fashion posters. Nano Banana 2 skin looked plastic; the PVC lacked refraction.
Test 3: Native multilingual
Task: a Spanish festival poster.
Result: Seedream got the mood, but the Spanish was fake — spelling and grammar failed. GPT Image 2 was closest to a real poster: readable, fluent type. Nano Banana 2 had the pieces, but hierarchy failed — “PASIÓN” dominated while real event info got buried.
Test 4: Social media layouts
Task: WeChat cover, Zhihu long knowledge graphic, Xiaohongshu card — ship without Photoshop.
Sample long prompt (Zhihu tall graphic):
A 9:16 vertical knowledge long-form graphic in Notion-style minimalist hand-drawn line art. Warm off-white background #F5F0E8, macaron accents (mist blue #A8D8EA, lavender #D5C6E0, mint #B5E5CF, peach #F8D5C4), emphasis coral red #E8655A. Thin hand-drawn frames, small icons, comfortable whitespace, premium knowledge-blogger feel. Main language matches the page locale; keep technical terms in English (eval, trace, token, IP).
Four sections top to bottom (thin hand-drawn dividers): [1 Cover] Large title: “The Reverse Information Paradox” + coral wavy underline. Subtitle: In the AI era, enterprises pay twice for intelligence. [2 Core] Arrow’s information paradox → AI’s reverse problem. Core line (coral): You buy intelligence and also expose knowledge — pay once, give proprietary knowledge once. The more useful the model, the more knowledge you feed it. [3 Countermeasures] Three items (hand-numbered): ① Control: build private evals, keep data-trace ownership. ② Capability: build learning environments inside safe boundaries without leaking knowledge. ③ Choice: decouple orchestration from any single model so switching stays easy. [4 Closing] Large line: Use the model, but do not surrender the knowledge that makes you unique. Bottom tags: #ReverseInformationParadox #EnterpriseAI #DataSovereignty Requirements: clear hand-drawn type, clear hierarchy, soft macaron blocks; no garbled text; no extra decoration.
Result: GPT Image 2 was closest to a real editorial designer — hierarchy, reading rhythm, long-text stability. Seedream matched Chinese design taste — strong titles, steady layout — with occasional long-text glitches. Nano Banana 2 kept the information but felt less like native Chinese social content and more like a translated layout.
Test 5: Image editing (gaokao math paper)
Task: fill correct working and answers into fixed slots on a real exam sheet.
Result: GPT Image 2 had clear steps and tidy formulas, but a logic hole (final answer A while reasoning led to D). Seedream dropped options during recognition and left blanks. Nano Banana 2 did not finish — no working shown.
Test 6: Chinese display type
Task: a solid-color poster with oversized bold Chinese type.
Prompt:
Solid-color background. Render oversized bold Chinese display type centered: "新能源汽车销量排行榜". Effects: gradient fill, thin stroke, realistic drop shadow.
Result: Seedream led on accuracy, stroke spacing, and gradient smoothness. Nano Banana 2 strokes were clean but too light/small for “oversized bold.” GPT Image 2 was stable, yet stroke and shadow felt like plastic stickers.
Test 7: Ecommerce design
Task: a summer drink launch poster — icy transparency, curved label, vertical Chinese type.
Long prompt:
Goal: create a fresh vertical summer drink poster with icy-transparent aesthetics, pale cyan tones, and premium minimal Chinese-style layout.Canvas: 9:16 vertical poster, bright high-key lighting, soft sky-blue and white background with light clouds, sparkling mist, crushed ice, and glossy water reflection at the bottom. Soft palm-leaf shadow in the upper right for tropical summer sun.
Subject: large transparent plastic cup placed mid-lower right. Cup holds translucent light-cyan iced drink with bubbles, condensation droplets, crushed ice on top, and one round lime slice leaning on the rim. Cup rim and walls must look transparent, glossy, and realistic with cool highlights and refraction.
Cup label: circular white label with cyan print — one Chinese drink name, English subtitle “CITRUS COCONUT CLOUD ICE”, one thin divider, and three small line icons (lime slice, coconut with palm, ice cubes). Small ingredient text at bottom: “青柠 椰子 冰爽”.
Typography: tall vertical cyan Chinese title on the left “青柠椰云冰饮”. Near upper left, small vertical slogan “清爽椰云 冰凉入心” with a tiny lime icon and short hanging dotted decoration. Near lower left, three stacked English words: Citrus, Coconut, Cloud Ice.
Stamp: circular cyan stamp above-right of the cup, snowflake center, tiny Chinese text implying summer pick and icy refreshment.
Style: realistic product-ad render mixed with clean flat design, elegant thin cyan type, ultra-clear glass ice, soft glow, water reflection, low contrast, generous whitespace, fresh coconut-lime summer mood; no people, no clutter, no extra products, no watermark.
Result: Seedream surprised — strong grasp of domestic ecommerce visual language (whitespace, palette, brand feel). GPT Image 2 still led physical realism — droplets and ice looked closer to photography. Nano Banana 2 was fine on layout and feel, but the cup label looked like a flat sticker and text had errors.

Wrap-up: the specialization era
After seven rounds, the takeaway is clear: image models have entered a specialization era.
Pretty pictures are table stakes. The real split is how many real user jobs you cover — and how much Photoshop you remove.
- GPT Image 2: the steady international design lead. Complex layout, multilingual type, and reasoning tasks remain its strongest lane.
- Seedream 5.0 Pro: the commercial designer who gets Chinese internet taste. Covers, knowledge cards, ecommerce posters — localization is excellent.
- Nano Banana 2: fast iteration and character consistency are its home field. For precise repair and complex compositing in rapid prototyping, it is still hard to replace. For dense infographics and extreme text precision, it is not the first pick.
From text-to-image to image-to-image, these three tools embody different design philosophies. Do you need international stability, local aesthetics, or raw speed? Model choice still comes down to the job in front of you.
